Finding Balance on the Solstice

Happy Summer Solstice!

Today is often called “the longest day of the year” for those of us in the northern hemisphere. Many cultures celebrate today as an invitation to remember joy, abundance, and fertility. At this time of year we may feel more energized, excitable, and brighter. Some of us may be more sensitive to heat, brightness, and sound as the daylight extends late into the evening. If you’re sensitive to light, perhaps consider how you might amend your routine to promote rest, sleep, and energy conservation.

Today, invite a moment of introspection and quiet to balance the bright energy. Consider creating a sensory memory to return to in the depths of winter. Feel the warm summer sun shine on your face-what sounds do you hear? Incorporate all your senses as you take a snapshot of this moment.

The inverse of the Summer Solstice is the Winter Solstice, celebrated December 22nd. These two days mark the “least balance” we experience in terms of light exposure. Energetically, we might feel “off” today and in the next few days. Finding rituals to celebrate the seasonal passage of time creates connection with our environment.
