Jeni Everts Beier, LPC, PMH-C (she/her)
Clinic Lead & Psychotherapist
Blended families
Hey! I'm Jeni. I'm proud you made it to this part of the website.
No, really. I am super proud of you for clicking this far. That's a huge feat that deserves to be celebrated. Getting to this point in considering therapy takes a lot of courage! It can be a lot to try to find the therapist that is right for you. I get it, I’ve been in that seat, too. But it’s also a lot to keep living and feeling the way you may be feeling right now. So let’s make some adjustments. Let’s start you on your way to feeling and living better.
The clients I see:
Overall, I see people who are facing some tough shit. More specifically, I work with individuals who are 18 years and older, who tend to be mostly women, but men are welcome, too! I also see couples for couples counseling. A lot of the clients that love to work with me are driven and motivated. They know what needs to improve and need some help finding the solutions to get there.
A large portion of my clients are perinatal in some way- which is anywhere from TTC, through pregnancy, postpartum, infertility, TFMR (termination for medical reasons), and/or RPL (repeat pregnancy loss). I came to working with this population because I am a mom myself. I struggled with postpartum depression after the birth of my first child. It sucked. I also have experience in the world of fertility challenges. My empathy for those in any perinatal struggle is real. And so is my passion to be with those in the struggle and help them find their way through it.
I work with couples who struggle with communication, considering separation, infidelity, parenting differences, deciding how/when/if to grow the family, loving each other, and anywhere in between. I am married. Remarried, actually, after becoming a widow a few years ago. I’ve had tough conversations in both of my marriages. I am in a blended family. I understand how relationships can be amazing, and on the other hand, kind of difficult. I am a “hopeless romantic” so I love to see success in relationships.
I am accepting of all people. I am often seeking out training for my own cross-cultural education. You are safe in my office.
My therapy style:
My sessions are calm, organic, and straightforward while being kind. I think I am hilarious and enjoy using humor in sessions. Therapy does not have to be all doom and gloom, we are allowed to smile and laugh in session! I'll use swear words if the environment is fitting. But if that's not your thing, that's okay, too! I don’t have all the answers. Instead, let's find the answers to your questions or concerns together. I'm here to guide you along your path, not tell you where to go. Therapy is us working together.
I could be the right fit for you if you are looking for a therapist where you can get all the things out of your head, and then leave the session with something to do, try, or think about. My style is goal-directed and motivating. I am the therapist that gives homework. I want you to leave each session with the opportunity to be equipped with a new skill or thought to try when you are living your life. My goal is for you to get what you need, and then move forward and discharge when you’re ready - the goal isn’t to stay in therapy forever. Let’s get you what you need then back to fully living your life.
I work with clients to address their mental health concerns and achieve mental wellness. I strongly believe in the treatment of the whole person and their strengths, not just their perceived weaknesses. No two mental health journeys are the same, so I treat each experience as unique to what you need at that given time. I counsel through the lens of person-centered and cognitive-behavioral, but in all reality, I counsel to what is needed in that session.
What I’m like:
I love the work that I do. Seriously. I couldn't be more excited to be in this office helping people reach their mental health goals. I love watching my clients put the pieces together and take steps toward feeling better.
But work isn't life. I have a pretty great family. I am a wife. I am a widow. I am a mom to two kids with my late husband. I am a stepmom to two more kids. Yes, that is four kids and our house can be very loud and very full of love. We also have a dog, and a cat. I am a Christian. My husband and I golf (he is far better than me). Music is life. Traveling feeds my soul. Reading is a daily occurrence. I am that type that is reading 2-3 books at a time. I also love a good TV binge.
My education and training:
I earned my Master of Science in Education in Professional Counseling degree at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Human Services Leadership degree from UWO as well. I have worked in some interesting places - most recently I worked for the state, I've also worked with kids with Autism, and adults with chronic mental illness. I am licensed in Wisconsin as a Professional Counselor and am a Nationally Certified Counselor.
I am certified in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) via Postpartum Support International. I am also trained in couples counseling via the Gottman Institute
