Perinatal Grief & Loss

Losing a pregnancy, baby, or child is excruciating. It shouldn’t have happened, but it did. And then you have to live with the loss, and that grief becomes a constant companion.

Grief after the loss of a child or pregnancy is a difficult thing to manage on your own.

You resent your partner or others around you.

You resent the changes in your life that were completely out of your control.

You feel angry and broken.

You can’t see the way forward.

You may look back in anger or envy at the previous version of you.

You may look at people around you that have their baby or child with anger or envy.

Why do they get what I don’t?

Why didn’t I know how good I had it before?

Why didn’t I appreciate it enough?

You’re not alone, and you deserve to be heard and seen.

You deserve to feel happiness again.

Even if it doesn’t feel like it right now, things will get better. And our clinicians can help guide you there. Perinatal counseling for grief and loss is difficult, but we will be there for you every step of the way.

Working through the loss of a child or pregnancy is something that occurs across a lifetime. Our therapists are highly skilled and trained to guide you through your emotions, helping you process grief in a way that will help you now and in the future.

Clinicians at ERA can work with one or both partners in your family, or even additional support people if that is what you need. We welcome families of all kinds—there’s no judgment here and all families are welcome.
